I'm in the Christmas spirit now
Last night we celebrated Julia's 8th birthday. We also had all the grandchildren who were in town to reinact the Nativity. This is always a treasure to see the little ones play thier parts. Our costumes are homemade or should I say, what ever we have on hand, but we have a great time.
by the end some of our little sheperd boys were feeling tired, but in my opinion it was a great production!
I got a picture of what Bill usually looks like after he has eaten a good meal. We wish all of the family could have been here.
We hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas.

more pictures of the trip

gramps saying good bye to Trenton!
playing football with Trenton, by the way, it was so cute, he kept telling Grampa that HE needed more practice and to keep HIS eye on the ball!
Mark Twain's house in Hartford Connecticut.. so beautiful
an old Grist Mill in Sudbury Mass. ( about 30 miles out of Boston)
the little church across from the Grist Mill.. just like out of a magazine.
we had a wonderful trip, everything was perfect.
sorry the post is backwards.. but it will give you a little challenge to figure it all out!
jayne
Boston Stuff

the first picture is just a glimpse of how beautiful the trees were! we were in heaven!
the next picture is in Harvard... one of the old homes, and the sign said Gen. Washington stayed there!
The Old North church where Paul Revere hung the lanterns
and then Old Ironsides, one of the first ships Gen. Washington has built when our country was new. It's still afloat and in working order!
oops forgot the picture with the windows, is where CHEERS bar was. Bill loved the show Cheers so he had to go by it!
my Pictures of New England

the first picture is the front of Paul Revere's house in Boston , Massachuetts, we went inside.
the next pictures ( and where we went first was Plymouth Rock)
the ship is a reproduction and was first built in the 1050's.. the little village is about 3 miles from where it was orginally, but they constructed it like it was supposed to be. They have actors in costume that really play the part of the people, including the Indians that lived there. The hut where Bill is standing is what the Indians lived in, the straw thatched roof is more of the Pilgrims
now on to Boston with the next post.

The Fall is Beautiful in New England
wow, is what comes to mind! it's like a big beautiful painting to see the fall colors on the trees. Gorgeous reds and bright yellows.
We have really had a fun time seeing this part of the country. I'll try to post some pictures soon!
We loved the city of Boston. Old and new together, The city was very clean and alive with history. I loved it! Then we went to the "north side" of Boston and had the best Italian food ever. YUM!
We toured "Old Ironsides" which is over 200 years old. Oh, I also want to say that we drove through Providence Rhode Island, again, the city goes back in time 300 years! the old beautiful homes right in the center of town, and the Brown University were beautiful. ( again, I'll post some picture of it too,
we also toured the city of Hartford Connecticut. We loved touring Mark Twain's house.
REally everything was so fun to learn about.
Of course the high light was being with Jeff and Carolee and kids. We miss them so much, but they are doing so well, Dr. Jeff is replacing knees, and hips and working on backs! I think he's so smart!
when I get back to my old computer I'll download some pictures.
oh yea, we went through Paul Revere's house, saw Louisa Alcotts home, and where Longfellow stayed. History history history, I love it

Then I flew to Mesa to be with Candice and Troy and Lyla Jayne. She was blessed on Sunday.
It was a wonderful family day. How lucky Bill and I are to have 18 grandchildren.
by the way, who can figure out how to place pictures in the correct order ?????
oh well,
It's so nice to be home!

Getting Zapped tomorrow
Tomorrow I'm going back to the Opthamologist to get my left eye lazered. I've been diagnosed with Glaucoma for the past 3 years. It's really not a big deal if you catch it early ( like mine was) but the big deal for me is that the eye drops made me feel so horrible! They have tried 4 different kinds of medication, only to give me heart papitations, feeling really tired, or feeling depressed. Aren't those fun ? so for the past three years I've felt crummy! They lazer something inside your eye that makes a bigger drainage so you don't build up pressure. Anyway,I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will finally work.
Thankfully my heel is beginning to feel better. It's only hurt since last November when I was at Disneyland all day wearing bad shoes! uggg
On to good news. Next week in the RS broadcast /dinner. I'm looking forward to it and hope it turns out nice for the women in the stake. The broadcast is always wonderful.
I"m also looking so forward to being subsitute granny to my great niece and nephew that were just born. My sister Carolyn would have loved to be here to take care of them, but I plan to give them lots of kisses for her. They are beautiful miracle babies .
Bill and I are planning a fun trip to Hartford, Boston, and then over to Carolee and Jeff's house, I just can hardly wait.

Labor Day Fun

Ryan and Taryn, Nate and Macy came on Sunday and then Kristen and Joy came for dinner Sunday afternoon. We celebrated Nate and Kate's birthdays. It's always so fun to be together. We watched family video's that we have taken over the years, and had some great laughs at hairdos and clothes.
On Labor Day we went over to Kristen's house for swimming and hot dogs. Now I guess we are really offically going to start the Fall season.

Happy Anniversary 38 years
38 years ago Bill and I were married! In someways it seems like a life time ago becasue who can remember being single? But I wouldn't trade a minute of it. What a lucky girl I was that he fell in love with me and wanted me for his eternal companion. I can't imagine my life without being byhis side each day.You certainly learn a lot of life's lessons being married. It's such a marvelous learning experience to grow together. Raising children is also quite the experience but usually and thank goodness it's an exciting part of life.
Bill spoils me. I love that about him, he always wants me to have the best. He makes sure I have the nicest car to drive, Really I am a "plain Jane" at heart but he tries to makes things nicer for me. He is so patient too, never is demanding, and always tries to be understanding. You never hear him complain and tries to always be positive.
I'm such a lucky girl, I thank my Heavenly Father daily for his companionship. I'm glad we try harder not to let the little things bug us, life is sweeter, we are grateful for each day we have together.
My children truly have the best dad who loves them and cares for them. He is a man of integrity and someone they can always count on or come to in a crisis to help them.
I love you Bill, you are my sweetheart.
I also want to make mention here about another man in my life who I adore. My son Ryan had his 27th birthday a few days ago and I wasn't at home to write about my love for him. What a glorious day it was for me when he was born. Ryan has never disppointed us for a minute in his life. He was so sweet to raise. We are so proud of his life and so proud of his choice of his eternal partner. We love Taryn and they have the sweetest, and most beautiful children.
Son, thanks for making motherhood so fun and rewarding. I love you Ryan

Lyla Jayne is here
What a glorius thing it is to get another grand baby. Lyla Jayne made her entrance Thursday at 5:16 pm. Candice did so well! The Dr. came in and broke her water at 9:30 am, and soon afterwards started feelings pains, at 11:30 she was given an epidural ( which she was was the worst thing ever) but then was so happy to not feel pain! so from about 11:30 until 5:00 she was a happy camper no pain, and just dozing off and on. At 5:00 she asked me to go get the nurse because she was feeling pressure. So off I went to tell the nurse made a potty stop for me and then as I got at her room Troy was so excited to tell me the baby was ready! Geeeeish , that was quick! I called Melissa to hurry and get here, and at 5:16 she was out!
we could hardly believe how fast she came and with no pain! Candice was very happy to get the epidural even though it was painful shot. ( She said she would gladly get one again!)
sorry I don't have pictures yet, but i'm writing this while in AZ and my camera doesn't download to Melissa's computer) but I"ll send them later,
she weighed in at 7 lbs 14 oz. 20 1/2 inches long, has quite a good head of light brown hair.
Okay she is a great mixture of Troy and Candice! She has Candice's eyes, but Troy's nose and mouth. She's calm and we are thrilled to have her. Candice and Troy are on cloud 9
How fun to see another grandchild born. It's truly a miracle process.

eeeuuuuuuu The Refrigerator , the Beast
well, I've been putting it off but finally got around to thoroughly cleaning the Fridge. Can you tell I hate that job!
but it's clean and when it's so pretty inside I say to myself, "don't let it get dirty again!"
famous last words.
I'm anxiously waiting for the birth of little Lyla. She seems to be causing some concern for her mommy. Now that I've spent the money on my plane ticket they think she'll come sooner! oh well, thank goodness for Southwest's great policy of having a year to use up your ticket.
Nothing else happening here, still wearing the boot on my foot, begining to think my heel will never heal, funny words huh?
Trying NOT to get so upset about Obama's crazy health insurance proposal, he's slowing but surely trying to ruin the Nation! Hopefully people will get smart and realize that we don't want socialism!
Just right in our office one of our gals opts out of having health insurance and takes the money instead, I believe many many people do that too. ( another topic another day!)
I'll try to end on a positive note.
my baby boy is turning 27 in a couple of weeks, I'll write about that later.
everyone enjoy thier last few days of summer!

#17 Precious grand baby
For all of you who have young children believe me when I say how fast the time goes in raising them. I look back and wonder where the years went. ( of course there were a few years that seem to drag :)
I'm excited for Candice and Troy's little Lyla to come in the next few weeks.
I have the most wonderful tomatoes in my garden this year. They are huge! we are really enjoying them. My squash however was a failure. How can you fail at zuccini?
hope you all are enjoying your summer

4th of July Week Fun/Memories and PAIN
Jess ( Melissa's husband) made that great swing. The kids had a ball all being together.
We then parted and Bill, Ryan and Troy and Joy left for California. We stayed one more day at the cabin and then came home to Mesa where it was hot hot hot. That is why we all went swimming! ( top picture)
We celebrated with a baby shower in Mesa with Candice's friends, and relatives there. It was fun and lots of delicious food, can we say "cream cheese"
I have to tell you the rest of the story. Right before I was leaving for the cabin I woke up and felt my back ache, I thought it was from sleeping on Candice's couch, but soon realized it was something else! oh my, moaning and groaning and throwing up I soon was ready to have someone take me to the nearest hospital! After 5 hours I passed a kidney stone. what a surprise , hope I don't get to do that again! but after my hospital stay I was off to the cabin ready to have some fun!
tomorrow I get a cast on my foot because for the past 6 months I've had heel pain, let's hope this will be the secret cure!

Candice's Shower, think Pink
We had a fun shower for Candice last night, People were so kind and generous with thier gifts. Little Lyla will sure be dressed cute! We can hardly wait for her arrival.
Candice will be leaving to go back to Arizona on the 30th. It has been fun having her and Troy with us this summer.
I get to see Carolee and kids again, she will fly into Phoenix to be with Melissa and family.
The kids sure have fun when they are all together.
NOT looking forward to the Arizona heat though..Whew, how did I ever grow up there?
My tomato plants are LOADED. Fresh tomatoes are the BEST, Bring on the fresh salsa!

My Sweet Dad
My Dad was the 3th child born into a loving family. He was from sturdy pioneer stock from both sides of his family. He grew up in a little Mormon settlement called St. David Arizona which is about one hour south of Tucson. He loved growing up in St. David because most of his friends were his cousins! He was active in sports and music and helped his dad working in the little grocery store that had been started by his grandmother. About his senior year of high school his father was asked by the governor of Arizona to be the warden of the Arizona state prison in Florence Arizona. This was kind of tough for him to leave his boyhood home and all his cousins to be in a new place. By the way how did my grandpa go from being a little hometown grocer to the warden of the state prison??? Well, when my grandpa was just a young man he was the sheriff of the town of Bisbee Arizona which at the time was the largest mining city east of the Mississippi. He was a tough Sheriff amongst many shady characters but he was well respected for his integrity. There are many exciting stories of my Dad’s family living at the prison facilities but that period of time lasted about 3 years. My grandpa wanted his family which had now grown to 8 children to have the influence of the Church, so he took his family to Mesa Arizona and opened up another little family grocery store where my Dad and his brothers helped to get established.
My Dad was a hard worker and loved being among his family working each day. He then had the opportunity to further his education by attending Tempe Normal School which later became known as Arizona State University.
While at college my Dad was a fast runner. At the time of around 1932 Jesse Owens had just run the 100 yard dash at 9.4 seconds. While at a practice my Dad ran the 100 yard dash at 9.6 seconds.
My dad told me that after he ran the race his coach came running to him yelling at him that he was going to make him a world champion. Bill wanted me to point out that my dad was only 5 feet 6 inches tall so his legs were really fast!
Not long after the excitement of thinking of a sports career my dad was suddenly hit by severe back pain. He couldn’t run, or do any of the sports that he so dearly loved. He was sent back to the Mayo Clinic in Michigan where he was diagnosed with spondeolitis of the spine. Was my father devastated? Did he shed tears, I’m sure many many times. But recently I asked my Dad’s only surviving sibling about that time in my Dad’s life and he told me that he didn’t burden others with his heartache nor did he complain he didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him.
He continued his schooling and graduated with a business degree. At that time missions were more of an optional choice and he felt that his dad needed his help at the grocery store. He worked hard to help support his older brother on his mission. When his elder brother Harold came home Dad was then called to serve in the central Atlantic states mission with headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky.
Dad served well and loved his mission and was a dedicated missionary.
When Dad came home he once again worked with his Dad and brothers at the family grocery store. This store was always closed on Sundays and they never sold liquor. It became quite successful in this Mormon community.
Dad was hard worker and very loyal to the family business, but he did manage to check out the cute girls who would come into the store to shop. One of those girls one day seemed to need extra special attention in picking out potatoes of which my dad was happy to assist. They seemed to be right for each other and soon after they were married in the Mesa Temple.
My mom and Dad settled in Mesa and started a family. My Dad and Mom were thrilled when their first child was born, my sister Carolyn.
Life was a struggle because the War II had just ended and there were many shortages. Some food products were hard to come by and also housing was hard to find.
Since my dad was in the grocery business he usually had first pickings of food. Bacon was a real treat, and not everyone could get bacon. My mother would fry the bacon in the morning and all through the apartment the smell of bacon would drift to the hallways. Unfortunately the land lady told my mom that if she didn’t get her some bacon she better move because the smell of bacon was driving her crazy!
I think we sometimes we forget that there are challenges for each generations, times can become very hard, insecurity abounded them during their lives too.
My Dad was a faithful man in the church. When he had a young family he was called as a counselor in the Bishopric and served for a couple of years. The Bishop at the time died and my Dad was then called to serve as the Bishop in 1951. My Dad served continuously until I was a senior in high school. He was a wonderful Bishop, He just had a knack to get anyone to do anything! No one could say no to my Dad.
My Dad suffered all that time with bad health. He was the perfect example of perseverance and dedication. His spinal problems caused him to have stooped back and constant pain. He didn’t ask to be released; in fact in 1961 he suffered a broken neck in a swimming accident. He truly suffered then. He was sent to Salt Lake City to have a specialist operate on him. His surgery was 13 hours, he was in a body cast for many months, but he still served as Bishop.
I remember once I was in high school and a very busy teenager or so I thought, I was working every night, and on Saturdays, I had many extracurricular school activities and was a primary teacher, I had been teaching primary for three years, I felt it was time to quit, I felt I had served enough time. This was back in the day when primary was held during the week. I just felt that I could do it all, so I went into my dad’s bishop’s office and said I wanted to be released. I remember it so well, he said, Jayne you should never ask to be released, you should only tell the Bishop of your circumstances and let them decide what should be done. This has been a great lesson of my life. Remember my dad didn’t ask to be released with a broken neck! He served a few more years! I know through his service he strengthened many of the ward members testimonies.
I remember the day when my dad did receive the call for his release and how he cried many tears. One would think they would be tears of joy, but really they were tears of love he had for so many of his ward members he had taken care of for so long, it was difficult to pass the mantle on.
He taught me another lesson though that I would like to share with you.
After his calling as Bishop he was called to serve on the high council. He loved that opportunity of service too. He loved every job he was asked to do. A lesson I learned well is that it doesn’t really matter where you serve if you put your heart and soul into it you just should love whatever you are asked to do, and do your very best, you will love it and feel it’s the best calling you’ve ever had.
My Dad died shortly after Bill and I were married in 1971, he was only 59 years old, He was an ordinary man that accomplished extraordinary things.
I love you Dad!

There is just Nothin Better than this
Friday June 5th, our newest arrival in the Mccook Family finally came. Little Macy Ann McCook was born and weighed in at
6 lbs. 11 oz. and she is just perfect.
Taryn was the most cool calm and collected young mom ever! The only downer was that Ryan got the stomach flu and was so sick he was sent home! and missed being in the delivery room. He was so miserable. After two days he was able to hold little Macy. We love her so much. Nate is just having fun being with grandparents and cousins. Life is good for him too!

#1 Daughter in Law

I have the best daughters and even top on my list is my daughter in law Taryn!
she fits into our family perfectly. Ryan grew up with such attentive sisters and he loved them all so much. He found the perfect match in Taryn. We all love her. She is beautiful, fun and such a sweet mom to Nate. We couldn't have found a better match ourselves!
Today is her birthday and we want her to know how much we LOVE her and so grateful she is apart of our family.
Happy Birthday Taryn
( by the way, we are missing our sissy Melissa in this picture but this was the best I had of most of us!)

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks
I've been wanting to learn how to use a pressure canner and can my own meat. Wa La
when I was in Arizona Melissa taught me how to use the pressure cooker. I"m no longer afraid of the beast!
I'm really excited about this and plan on doing chicken next.
Really it's easy and I'll be happy to show any one if they are interested.
My garden is growing so well. Thanks to my buddy Carol who told me about a great soil mixture!
Can't wait to eat fresh tomatoes!
Can't believe it's May already, time just flies by. I'm so excited for my two new grandbabies coming this summer. I'll have a total of 18 GRAND kids

Best Buddies, Mack and Trenton
And how limber is Ryan?
Easter was wonderful. We ate a lot, laugh a lot and made more fun memories,
the pictures show the arm wrestling contest, stretching exercises, eating, and of course our big Easter egg hunt. By the way Trevor was the lucky one with the $50.00 egg.
After our special Easter of being all together, I headed over to Arizona to attend my 40th high school reunion. It was a blast. Really it was so special to see old friends. It just seems crazy to think 40 years have passed. What's really crazy is that in your mind you feel like an 18 year old but unfortunately you do feel that OLD body!
Arizona was great being with Melissa and Candice. Melissa taught me how to can meat in a pressure cooker and Candice picked out some new clothes for me, and cut my hair. I sure love being with my girls!
It's good to be home again!
